St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer

Today I put on the armor of God
and I ask to be accompanied by
the great power of invoking the Most Holy Trinity.
I believe in one God in three persons,
Creator of heaven and earth.

Today I put on the armor of God
and I ask to be accompanied by
the power of Christ’s incarnation and baptism,
the power of his crucifixion, death, and burial,
the power of his resurrection and ascension,
the power of his coming again on Judgment Day.

Today I put on the armor of God
and I ask to be accompanied by
the love of the seraphim,
the obedience of angels,
the hope of resurrection and eternal life,
the prayers of patriarchs,
the predictions of prophets,
the preaching of apostles,
the faith of confessors,
the purity of holy virgins,
the righteous deeds of just men.

Today I put on the armor of God,
and I ask that no harm may come to me, but help may be given
from the strength of heaven,
the light of the sun, the brilliance of the moon,
the splendor of fire, the flash of lightning,
the swiftness of wind, the depth of sea,
the stability of earth, the firmness of rock.

Today I put on the armor of God, and I ask:
May God’s strength accompany me,
God’s power uphold me,
God’s wisdom teach me,
God’s eye watch over me,
God’s ear hear me,
God’s Word give me speech,
God’s hand guide me,
God’s way lie before me,
God’s shield protect me.
May God be my refuge and safeguard
from the snares of demons,
from the seduction of vices,
from lust,
from all who wish to harm me,
near or far,
little or much.

Today I invoke all these powers
against every ruthless and merciless force
that may attack my body and soul,
against the incantations of false prophets,
against the dark laws of paganism,
against false doctrines,
against idolatry and betrayal,
against witchcraft, occultists, sorcerers, fortune tellers,
against anything that binds or destroys the soul and body.

May Christ protect me
from every poison, from fire,
from drowning, from fatal wounds,
so I may receive abundant reward.

Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in the home, Christ on the road, Christ on the sea,
Christ in my rest, my work, my community.
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit, Christ when I rise.
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)
Christ is my salvation.
May your help, O Lord, always be with us.

Today I put on the armor of God
and I ask to be accompanied
by the great power of invoking the Most Holy Trinity.
I believe in one God in three persons,
Creator of heaven and earth.
