Fear of death as a catholic

Even Jesus sweat blood when thinking about His Passion and Death (Luke 22:44). It is natural to fear dying and the end of one’s life, even with the knowledge that Christ has opened Heaven to us. Hope is a theological virtue, and we need God’s grace to be strengthened in it. So I would argue we can’t really take away that fear; we have to trust in God, live the moral life, and pray for the grace at the end of life for a strengthening of Hope, which will bring us peace at death.

Fear of death is a natural and logical thing. But I think it's important to meditate on death, grow in hope and trust. As Catholics, we have hope in God's mercy that death isn't the end for us and we can be united with Him, and that will be better than anything in this life. Also, "memento mori" is a typically Catholic thing - live every day like you could die (in a state of grace, growing in virtue), so you have no reason to be scared when it comes.
