Since I started this project, I’ve noticed that the people who’ve come on board all have one thing in common: they’re seeking something more out of life.
I always thought the answer to that was giving people a network, connecting people to each other. Once upon a time, making online connections was what got me to where I am today.
But I eventually realised:
More important than a network, is becoming someone worth connecting with.
The real problem that dating/networking apps will never solve is this: often we get on these platforms expecting to get value or insights from others, when we ourselves have nothing much to offer or share. That’s a harsh truth, and some may be offended.
What makes our faith different from Protestantism is thatl we don’t just have one encounter with Christ and we’re “once saved always saved”.
We’re called to work out our salvation, to strive for more, EVERY SINGLE DAY. We are not saved by “faith alone”.
In this context, that has a double meaning.
In our faith, we are not saved simply by “having faith”, but actually living it out. Most of us know this.
But to go one step further, we as Catholics are called go BEYOND living the faith, to live our VOCATION. Which for many of us, isn’t religious life.
But in a funny way, it’s in truly living out our day to day lives to the best of our ability, that we truly live out the faith.
We have apps to help Catholics pray, to answer questions about Catholic teaching, even to try to find a spouse.
But we don’t have apps that actually help Catholics get our 💩 together.
The Legion was never meant to be an app where Catholics gather around and talk about being Catholic.
It was always meant to be a community of like-minded Catholics, striving for more in life. More conversations about career advancement, creative projects, personal development. Not so much about theological debates and apologetics.
That’s not to say that those things aren’t important. For years I dove deep into my faith, and got on the bandwagon of creating Catholic content like all the other Catholic influencers.
But alongside all that, I was also developing myself as a person, with my faith an anchor, not as my entire personality.
Going from a cringey kid, from a poor family, with not many friends, who could barely speak without stuttering, to someone who was hosting podcasts, living in dream cities, and having friends all over the world.
This new feature is a tool that I was building even before I created CatholicNetworker. Now I’m bringing it back for you guys, because I believe that many people in the Catholic space need it badly. A tool that keeps us accountable to not only fixing ourselves, but also going out into the world and making a real difference.
I invite you to check it out on the STRIVE tab in-app. I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make sure this tool will be game-changing for the community, but please do give me grace as this rolls out. Many assume that The Legion is run by a team, but really it’s just me- zero investors or external funding, completely out of my own pocket.
