St Augustine, Florida

I cannot suggest it enough! Go to St Augustine, Fl! Quite a bit of unique history there, with the Castillo De San Marcos, and the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine which has unique red ceilings. What a fun town.

When visiting for a day or more, the trolly pass is worth it due to being able to hop on or off at various points through so that you don’t have to walk nearly as much.

In the pirate museum they even have from the (1600s?) a pirate rosary. Yes, a pirate rosary. Very interesting. In the same building as a surviving original copy of a Jolly Roger flag. Allegedly, only three Jolly Roger flags survive to this day. And that one is in the pirate museum.

The fort (Castillo de San Marcos) has a chapel built into it which is where mass has been held in the past centuries, and the fort has never fallen in battle. Rest assured, you could be the celebrant for that little mass within those walls and the fort would protect you.

Yes!! Even the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche is cool. There’s also a mini museum in the gift shop building that’s easy to miss, nearby the other church of Our Lady. In the same general area, there’s the site of the actual first Thanksgiving! I should visit the fort again. It’s been awhile! The cathedral is also beautiful!

I haven’t gone to the pirate museum yet! I had no idea that there was a pirate rosary. Ooh! I’ll have to check it out.
