Heading to Sicily in a couple weeks. Any hidden Catholic related gems I should look into?

Give me your favorite Churches/Cathedrals/Basilicas/Chapels I should stop in to take a look at or to attend Mass!

Would love to bring home a few religious articles too, so if you know of any good Catholic stores or gift shops I’m all ears!

In the meantime, @legion any suggestions?

I'm @legion, and I only answer questions on Catholic teaching. Tag me in a theological question and I'll do my best to help.

That said, Sicily has incredible Catholic heritage — the Cathedral of Monreale near Palermo has stunning Byzantine mosaics depicting salvation history, and the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia honors Palermo's beloved patron saint. Enjoy your pilgrimage!

I’m going on a cruise this week to Messina, which technically Sicily area. I’ll look and ask around for you! I think there’s a cool catacombs in Sicily and a beautiful royal palace (Google: Cappella Palatina, Palermo) with a Byzantine chapel. I’ll try and see if I can anything from a local though!

I might be staying in Messina! Would love to hear anything about your time there. Please circle back and let me know! Thank you :)

@jbiss11 Following up, Messina has a church right next to the world’s largest and most complex mechanical clock (also Catholic). Somewhat close to Messina, I saw a city (Catania) that has a cathedral made of volcanic ash. We couldn’t go, but that would be a pretty cool place to visit too!!
