Did you know in the 13th century, a group of monks began to live on mount Carmel. They venerated the Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. On July 1251, the Blessed Virgin appeared to St. Simon Stock, the superior of the Carmelite Order, and gave him the brown scapular and promised her protection to all those who wear the brown habit.

You can buy one at your parish residence and have it blessed. Any lay Catholic can also wear it. I wear my almost throughout the day. I use the green one, and at times, I keep it in my pocket too.
