Would it be a sin for say Andrew Garfield to lie on television that he was in the upcoming spiderman movie?
Ps, we’ve removed the AI function. More on that soon, so I’m keen to hear all your real human research and thoughts!

Love this question haha Even though I'm not much of a Thomist, Saint Thomas Aquinas says the components to sin are the object (action itself), intention (motivation behind it), circumstances (internal/external context), and the result.
He's also *very* clear that if the object and/or the intention is bad, the result will be sinful. The culpability of which is mitigated by the circumstances. In other words, "the ends do not justify the means".
Using your example, we are only aware of the object - he told a lie. A lie is bad. In any case, a sin was committed. What we *don't* know is the intention or the circumstances. Because of that, we can't know if it's mortal or only venial. In the end, however, only the Lord can know and judge sin of any degree. :)
Kudos to those who read all the way to the end haha

Who needs AI when we have Dalton!
@gabrielstcharles What a guy haha
What about what actually makes a lie? Is a false truth always a lie and if it is, what are those who have signed NDAs or have promised not to mention certain things supposed to do if questioned about say something like national security?
Obviously a role in a movie and national security are of different gravity. Having served in the armed forces there are simply certain topics I would say I have no knowledge or cannot confirm or deny when I probably could shed truth if asked.

Tell me then is the US government hiding aliens in Area 51
@gabrielstcharles I actually have zero knowledge about that, unfortunately. Also I’d say probably not since the whole world knows about it now
