Purchasing a car

Hi all!

Thinking of getting another car. Notice that I didn’t say “new” because buying a brand new car is such a ripoff. My current Toyota Corolla is 10 years old, and I’m about to break the 100,000 miles mark.

I’d like to purchase a Toyota Camry that has less than 50,000 and/or it’s within 4 years old so that the warranty still covers it. My financial planner recommends CarMax, and someone at work mentioned Hertz Car Sales.

Do you have any recommendations or suggestions?

I'm looking for a second-hand car myself too, so just reading along for the recommendations here!

Any US-based members who can advise?

I just lease my car right now, but that’s because my credit is trash. CarMax has done well by me with my previous car, and I owned it years after paying it off.

If the Camry feels right, also test drive a 2021-2023 Honda Accord, Mazda CX-5, or Toyota RAV4 Hybrid — they’re all reliable, hold value, and fit that <4yr/<50k mile sweet spot. For max savings, a Corolla Hybrid or Mazda3 gives you Toyota-level dependability at a lower price. Check Toyota or Honda CPO first for the best warranty, then compare with CarMax or Hertz for pricing.
